Intro to Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving

In this intimate group class of 6 students, you will learn the magic of using a rigid heddle loom from set up to finished woven cloth. With a philosophy of freeform exploration inspired by Saori weaving, and unique weaving styles with a range of fibres to play with, students will create a sampler where they can learn from their mistakes, step out of their comfort zone and improve their weaving techniques. This class is very beginner friendly but welcomes weavers of all levels who wish to explore new techniques in a relaxing and encouraging environment.

This is a two-day class:

  • Day one - 9am-2pm (5hrs)

  • Day two - 9am-2pm (5hrs)

Please note if you are bringing your own rigid heddle loom, it must be under 20” in width.

Let’s make a beautiful and textural wall hanging.

  • Students will learn the basics of setting up their rigid heddle looms from direct warping to tie up.

  • They will learn the basics of plain weave, clasped weft weaving to create shape, and other textural techniques.

  • Students will leave with a sampler piece that is approximately 6” wide by 20” long.

  • Students will be provided with 4/8 cotton yarn for the warp and a variety of fun textural fibres and yarns to explore with while weaving.

Prerequisite: This is a beginner friendly class and welcomes all levels of experience.
You will receive an email reminder with more details about the workshop a week before the class date. If you do not finish your weaving within the class time, you can book extra weaving hours at $30/hr or rent your loom for a week.
